Mission
The Madison Fencing Academy provides instruction in modern, Olympic fencing. We teach beginners through advanced fencers the proper, safe and effective use of the modern foil, sabre and epee. The MFA is not a historical re-enactment society.
Instructors
The Madison Fencing Academy is proud to offer the lessons and guidance of:
Michael Garrison
Mike started fencing in 1981 while attending Michigan State University, where he studied under Maestro Charles Schmitter.
After MSU, Mike taught at local clubs, university teams and sports centers in Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin.
Mike is the Head Coach of the University of Wisconsin Fencing Club and Team and teaches the Fencing class for the University of Wisconsin Union. In trying to expand fencing to the Madison community, Mike presents demonstrations and seminars throughout the year.
Mike is a full member of the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) and through this professional organization he continues his education and training. In the spring of 2006 Mike passed the USFCA Moniteur examination for all three weapons. In early 2007 Mike earned the USFCA Prevost d'Armes certification. Mike is currently training and studying for the rigorous Fencing Master examination.
Mike's teaching style is casual, interactive and humorous; emphasizing efficiency of movement and biomechanical advantage over strict adherence to convention. Mike teaches foil, epee and sabre.
Anthony Moore
Anthony is a student at the University of Wisconsin, a member of the UW Fencing Team and a Specialist in the US Army.
Anthony served in Iraq from January 2005 to December 2005, returning home to continue his college education.

Anthony is available Thursday evenings for instruction in beginner's foil and footwork.
