Lara Szpak and Ilsa Block compete at March NAC
Last week, Lara Szpak came back from a challenging pool to take 1st place in Div. II Women's Epee at the NAC in Cincinnati, OH. Lara was seeded 65th going into the DE round, but kept her composure, fought hard, took the gold, and earned her B.
Ilsa Block finished tied for 59th out of 78.
Way to go Lara and Ilsa. We're all proud of each of you.

Hell yes we're fencing tonight!
I know, I know. I've said this before and it's bitten me on the rear, but hell yes we're fencing tonight. The forecast calls for 2-4 inches of snow, a mere dusting in Wisconsin.
Unless we have a blizzard in the next hour, fencing is a go for Thursday January 12, 2012.

No Fencing on Thursday 12/15/2011
Hello all,
I'm sorry about this but a family emergency has come up that is forcing me to cancel fencing for Thursday 12/15/2011.
As you know, we're closed the last two weeks of December for our annual holiday break. This means that our last fencing day of 2011 will be Tuesday 12/13. We will return from break on Tuesday January 3, 2012.
Again, I'm sorry to have to cancel fencing for 12/15. Please have a happy and safe holiday.

Fall and Holiday Schedule, 2011
Hi folks,
Just a quick note to update everyone on the Fall and Holiday schedule for the remainder of the year. As you know we fence every Tuesday and Thursday night. There are a small number of nights throughout the year, however when fencing must be cancelled or delayed. Here's a listing of these night through the rest of 2011...
- Tuesday 9/20/11: No Fencing (Parent Open House at the school)
- Thursday 10/20/11: No Fencing (School-wide book fair)
- Thursday 11/3/11: MFA starts at 8:00 PM instead of 7:30 PM. One night only
- Thursday 11/24/11: No Fencing (Thanksgiving Day)
- Tuesday 12/20/11 through Thursday 12/29/11: No Fencing (Christmas Holiday. We'll return from the Christmas Holiday on Tuesday 1/3/12)
...and that should do it. Of course, I'll send out weather updates as they happen, and please contact me directly if you have any questions.

Yes, we're air conditioned
I've had a few calls asking if our salle is air conditioned. It sure is, so please don't let the heat discourage you from stopping by.

Fencing cancelled for Tuesday 4/19/2011
Hi Folks,
As you know, I hate to cancel fencing for something as silly as the weather, but I must tonight. I just got home and the roads are very, very icy.
I'm sorry about the cancellation, but it's just too slippery out there, and it's only going to get worse.
Stay off the roads if you can and I'll see you Thursday, 4/21.

Ok, so there was 18" of snow...
Hmmm...,
I suppose you've read post of 2/1/2011 wherein your faithful author laughs in the face of the predicted storm. Well, several of us went to fencing that night. We all thought the same thing, "it's not too bad right now."
However, while we were in the gym things got much, much worse. I came out to find my car buried to the windows with blowing snow. Oh, and the city decided to garage the plow trucks until the storm had past. So, the drive home from fencing was horrid, scary and, well, stupid.
So here's to Jacob, Heinz and Anthony. Gentlemen, you're my kind of stupid!

Snow, what snow?
Yes, we're supposed to get this huge storm later tonight and yes the weather reports are all doom and gloom. But we're fencers, damn it, and a little snow is not going to stop us.
As I write this note (6:28 PM) there's a lot of blowing, but not much new snow in Madison. Weather radar show the storm about 75 miles south of us and my driveway, which I plowed this morning at 6:00 AM is still clear and dry.
So, yeah, we're fencing tonight. Stay tuned for news of Thursday the 3rd.
