Welcome to the Madison Fencing Academy
Have you seen The Princess Bride, Pirates of the Caribbean, Zorro, The Duelists or The Three Musketeers? If your heart pumped a bit faster while watching these movies, may we suggest that you learn to fence.
Fencing is a wonderful sport that maximizes your mental focus and physical athleticism. You can do it! You'll have a blast and you get to use swords.
Fencing Academy News and Events
Fencing 101 is a 4-week program that will introduce you to the wonderful sport of fencing. No prior experience is necessary. Students will learn safety rules and this class will operate according to the highest levels of sportsmanship.
In addition, you will learn:
· Dynamic warm-ups and stretching
· Basic footwork
· Attacks and parries
· The superiority of leverage over strength
· The superiority of efficiency over speed
· The priority of attack rules and how to use them
Session I classes: 6/15/09, 6/22/09, 6/29/09 and 7/6/08 from 7:00 - 8:00 PM
Session II classes: 7/13/09, 7/27/09, 8/3/09 and 8/10/09 from 7:00 - 8:00 PM
Class size: Limited to ten students. Minimum student age is 10.

Cost: $100.00, with all fencing equipment provided. If you enjoy the class and want to continue fencing at the Madison Fencing Academy 100% of your class fee will be credited toward an annual membership.
Equipment: All fencing equipment will be provided. Just bring or wear comfy workout clothing and sneakers. Boots or running shoes won't do.
Instructor: Prevot d'Armes Michael Garrison. Michael is the Head Coach of the University of Wisconsin Fencing Club and Team and the Owner/Head Instructor of the Madison Fencing Academy.
Michael is a member of the United States Fencing Association and Chairman of the Wisconsin Division. He is a credentialed member of the United States Fencing Coaches Association, through which he earned the Moniteur and Prevot d'Armes certification for all three weapons and is currently studying for the rigorous Fencing Master examination.
Michael's teaching style is casual, interactive and humorous; emphasizing efficiency of movement and biomechanical advantage over strict adherence to convention.
